Johannes Eisenbichler, the proprietor of Neutra Kunststoffbau GmbH, set up a small company with a main focus on tank construction in 1987. He was swift to see the entrepreneurial opportunities opened up with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disappearance of the Iron Curtain, and in 1990 accordingly launched Neutra. The early years were determined by establishing a corporate structure and gaining customers, primarily in the former East German states. The new company saw its first milestone in 1991 with production of a complete modern acid polishing unit for Arnstadt Kristall, Germany. This was followed in 1993 by delivery of a unit to Asfour Crystal of Egypt, Neutra's first export to a destination outside Europe. In the years that followed, the company internationalised its sales activities, leading on to first orders from Asia. In the cyclical highs and lows of the times, Neutra proved to be a steady and reliable partner to its customers. In early 2000, Johannes Eisenbichler began restructuring the company. The substantial investments in new products, manpower, machinery and infrastructure that this involved will continue to safeguard Neutra's development in future. Between 2006 and 2012 Neutra focused on developing new units for surface treatment of high-tech products such as technical glass and specialty optics, plus it also came up with proprietary products for the electroplating market. Further new developments included solar buffer storage tanks and components for biogas systems. Thanks to its long experience and continuous development work in glass surface treatment systems, the company is world market leader in the field today. All glass manufacturers in Germany now work solely with Neutra systems. Once it became apparent that Neutra's production space in Oberreit could no longer be enlarged, the company began looking round for a commercial plot where it could build larger business premises. A suitable piece of property was purchased in Petting in 2014.
In autumn 2015 Neutra marked its 25th anniversary with festivities in the new building, which at the time was still not quite finished. The company completed its relocation to the Petting site at the start of 2016. It was also during this time that Neutra Eloxal GmbH was set up in the same building to operate an aluminium anodising unit developed and manufactured by Neutra.
New operating areas such as units for surface treatment of technical glass such as displays, telescopes, etc. are increasingly gaining in importance for the firm.
In 2018 Neutra had a solar array installed on the roof of its business premises. The electricity generated in this eco-friendly way is mainly used to cover its own requirements.
